Plantar Fasciitis

Irritation of the plantar fascia can create pain through the heel or arch, often becoming especially noticeable during the first steps after rest or with extended time on your feet.

A custom orthotic can support the arch, cushion the heel, and redistribute load through the foot to help reduce repeated strain on the plantar fascia during standing and walking.

The answer is not simply “more arch support.” The contour, heel control, flexibility, and amount of correction should match the way your individual foot loads. An overly aggressive design can be just as uncomfortable as not enough support.

Overpronation

Pronation is a normal part of walking. Overpronation refers to the foot rolling inward excessively or remaining pronated longer than expected during the stance phase.

A custom orthotic can support the foot through stance, improve load distribution, and provide controlled support where excessive motion may be contributing to discomfort or fatigue.

Pronation itself is not a problem—it is a normal movement. The goal of an orthotic is not to lock the foot in place. We look at how much motion is occurring, when it occurs, and how that motion relates to the symptoms you report.

Supination

A foot that stays more toward its outer border during standing or walking may place increased pressure along the lateral side of the foot and provide less natural shock absorption.

Custom contouring and cushioning can increase contact beneath the foot, redistribute pressure, and help manage concentrated loading along the heel and outer border.

A laterally loaded foot often needs thoughtful accommodation rather than simply adding a very high arch. The design should increase useful contact and distribute pressure without pushing the foot farther toward the outside.

Flat Feet

Flat feet have a low or reduced arch profile. Some are flexible, some are more rigid, and many people with flat feet have no symptoms at all.

When symptoms are present, a custom orthotic can support the available arch, distribute pressure more evenly, and help reduce fatigue during prolonged standing or walking.

A flat-looking foot does not automatically need aggressive correction. Flexibility, comfort, activity, footwear, and the way the foot functions are more important than simply trying to create a visually higher arch.

High Arches

A higher-arched foot often has less surface area contacting the ground, which can concentrate pressure beneath the heel and forefoot.

A total-contact custom contour can increase the area supporting the foot while cushioning and redistributing pressure away from concentrated high-load regions.

High arches frequently benefit from accommodation and pressure distribution rather than aggressive correction. Increasing comfortable contact beneath the foot can be more useful than trying to force the arch into a different position.

Morton’s Neuroma

Morton’s neuroma involves irritation around a nerve in the forefoot and may create burning, tingling, numbness, or discomfort that can extend toward the toes.

When appropriate, custom forefoot contouring and metatarsal support can help redistribute pressure around the involved area and reduce concentrated loading beneath the metatarsal heads.

Placement matters. A metatarsal pad positioned too far forward can increase irritation rather than reduce it. Footwear width and available toe-box space are also important parts of managing forefoot pressure.

Heel Pain

Heel pain is a symptom rather than a single diagnosis. Where the pain occurs, when it appears, and what activities aggravate it can point toward very different causes.

Depending on the mechanics involved, a custom orthotic may help by cushioning the heel, redistributing pressure, supporting the arch, or managing the way forces travel through the foot.

“Heel pain” by itself does not tell us what needs to be changed. Pain beneath the heel, behind the heel, or along one side can involve different structures, which is why the details in your Fit Assessment matter.

Bunions

A bunion is a structural change around the big-toe joint that can create a prominent area along the inside of the forefoot and make certain footwear uncomfortable.

HOW CUSTOM ORTHOTICS MAY HELP

Orthotics cannot reverse a bunion, but they may help improve pressure distribution and support foot mechanics that contribute to irritation around the first metatarsophalangeal joint.

Footwear matters just as much as the orthotic here. A custom insert cannot compensate for a toe box that is too narrow and repeatedly presses directly against the bunion.

Metatarsalgia

Metatarsalgia describes pain or irritation through the ball of the foot, where the metatarsal heads carry substantial load during standing, walking, and push-off.

Custom contouring, cushioning, and properly positioned metatarsal support can help redistribute forefoot pressure and reduce concentrated loading beneath sensitive areas.

Simply adding more soft padding does not always solve forefoot pain. Effective offloading depends on where the pressure is occurring and how the orthotic redistributes that load before it reaches the painful area.

Achilles Tendinitis

Achilles irritation can develop when the tendon is exposed to more repetitive load than it can comfortably tolerate, producing pain or stiffness around the back of the ankle and heel.

When foot mechanics are contributing to tendon loading, a custom orthotic may help support the foot and modify some of the forces reaching the Achilles during standing and walking.

Achilles pain is not one-size-fits-all. Location, footwear, activity, ankle motion, and whether symptoms are closer to the heel insertion or farther up the tendon can all affect the appropriate support strategy.

Arthritis

Arthritis can affect different joints throughout the foot and ankle, potentially creating pain, stiffness, reduced motion, or sensitivity during weight-bearing activity.

Depending on the joint involved, an orthotic may help redistribute pressure, cushion sensitive areas, or limit motion that repeatedly aggravates a painful joint.

The useful design depends heavily on which joint is affected. In some situations the goal is support and motion control; in others, accommodation and pressure relief are more important than correction.
